Migrating from Setapp

SnippetsLab is ending support for Setapp releases and moving exclusively to the Mac App Store, where the app is now available for free. If you are currently using the Setapp version, please migrate your library to the App Store version before May 1, 2026.

Because the Setapp and App Store versions operate in different sandboxed environments, they cannot share data automatically. Follow the steps below to transfer your library using the built-in export and import tools.

Step 1: Export Your Library

First, export your current library from the Setapp version.

  1. Open the Setapp version of SnippetsLab.

  2. Choose Library > Export from the menu bar.

  3. Select SnippetsLab Library as the format.

  4. Choose a location to save the file (such as your Desktop) and click Export.

This will create a backup of your library with the .snippetslablibrary extension.

Step 2: Import Into the App Store Version

Next, import the file into the App Store version.

  1. Download and open SnippetsLab from the Mac App Store.

  2. Choose Library > Import from the menu bar.

  3. Select SnippetsLab as the format.

  4. Select the .snippetslablibrary file you exported in the previous step.

  5. Click Import.

Congratulations! Your library should now be successfully migrated to the App Store version.

Note

After verifying that your library has been successfully transferred, we recommend deleting the Setapp version to prevent confusion and ensure you don’t accidentally save new snippets to the old library.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I continue using the Setapp version past the deadline?

The Setapp version will be removed from Setapp on May 1, 2026. While your installed copy may continue to work, you will be unable to re-download the app if it is deleted, which poses a risk of data loss. Additionally, the Setapp release will not receive any future updates after that date.

Can I export my library in other formats, such as JSON?

For migration purposes, you must use the SnippetsLab Library format. This is the only format that preserves all application metadata, ensuring that features like deep links to snippets and fragments continue to function correctly after migration.

Will my settings be migrated?

Unfortunately, no. Since the Setapp and App Store versions are technically separate apps, your application settings (such as themes, fonts, and general app preferences) cannot be shared automatically. You will need to re-configure these settings in the App Store version.

However, if you have any custom themes, you can export and re-import them from Settings > Theme. For more information, see Theme List.
